Join us for the opening of Posters | 50 Years Since the Chilean Coup, an exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the 1973 coup in Chile. This exhibition showcases a year-long collaboration of artists and graphic designers who created a new poster on the 11th of each month throughout 2023, reflecting on the democratic breakdown and its lasting impact on Chilean society. Through powerful visuals, these works capture the resilience of Chilean memory, and the enduring role of art in activism and social justice.

This exhibition brings together a wide array of artists, from veterans like renowned muralist and visual artist Alejandro "Mono" González, to contemporary street artists like Caiozzama, whose work emerged during Chile’s social uprising in 2019.

Alongside the posters, we present works from the series Dignity by Chilean-born and Helsinki-based photographer Luis Bustamante. This photographic project explores the deep-rooted social inequalities and human rights violations that sparked the 2019 protests in Chile. Through his lens, Bustamante highlights the widespread corruption, impunity, and lack of mental health support that plague Chilean society, all of which culminated in a social uprising that left a lasting impact. Both works offer a raw, contemporary perspective on Chile's ongoing struggles for dignity and justice.

With posters by Mono Gonzalez, Guillermo Nuñez, Paulina Veloso, Julian Naranjo, Jose Venturelli, Serpientesal, Malandrailustra, Cami Blanche, Laura Behnke, Sebastian Gonzalez, Ronald Perez, Caiozzama, Rodrigo Cabezas, Cristian Garrido, Puñalada, Jorge Soto Veragua, Brigadas Ramona Parra, and Shetukiltra.

The exhibition is realized  in collaboration with the Association of Solidarity Finland-Chile–ASOFICH.

Alejandro “Mono” Gonzalez is a prominent muralist, icon in the Chilean struggle for resistance and memory, soul and motor of the Ramona Parra Brigade– a street art and propaganda collective formed in the 60’s to support Salvador Allende and to contest the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. The brigade is named after Ramona Parra, activist murdered in the Plaza Bulnes Massacre (28.01.1946) that suppressed peoples’ mobilization defending miners’ rights against Alfredo Duhalde policies. The work and memory of Ramona Parra Brigade continues to date.

Luis Bustamante is a Chilean photographer and artist, living in Finland since 2020. Luis has dedicated much of his career to communications and photojournalism.
